How to register to vote in Kenya and check your status
Who can register?
A Kenyan citizen who is at least 18 years old and holds a valid national identity card or a Kenyan passport.
What do you need?
- Your original national ID card or passport.
- To register in person at an IEBC registration centre or constituency office, where your biometrics are captured.
When can you register?
The IEBC runs registration drives and publishes dates in advance. Our election calendar lists the dates we are tracking, but the only authoritative source is the IEBC. Check iebc.or.ke for any open registration exercise.
How do you check your status?
Use the voter verification service on the IEBC website or the IEBC's official SMS service. Confirm the current method on iebc.or.ke, because channels and short codes can change. If you moved house, you must transfer your registration to your new polling area.
Beware of scams
The IEBC does not charge for registration. Do not share your ID number or phone with anyone who is not an official IEBC channel.
